Wire Puppy Picture Gallery

It's fun to keep track of how a litter of puppies grow up. We did take quite a few pictures of Promise's last litter.

Since we did not yet have a permanent whelping area set up in the new house, we decided to have Promise whelp her puppies in a sunny corner of the bedroom, near the windows overlooking the deck. This was a somewhat selfish decision because I knew it would allow me to sleep in our own bed and still be aware of what was happening with Promise. It actually worked out pretty well, but she and the puppies did move out to another space once they started on solid food at about 3 1/2 weeks of age. Their two week photos are below.

The puppies grew a lot in their first two and a half weeks. Their eyes opened, they began to hear our voices and they started toddling around the whelping box. They just started to play with each other too.

They were very content puppies at this age. Like babies, they slept a lot and they liked napping under the "pig rail." They were soon big enough to not need it's protection, but I liked using it because it helped keep their bedding in place.

Here are two of the girls. I caught the one on the left in a yawn. What a cutie! The one on the right I called the White Girl, but she actually does have a spot on her off side. Her real name is now "Sagan."

This girl was pretty busy. Even at this early age, she (and some of the others!) were trying to find a way out of their box.
